This is the third highest peak in Sri Lanka which is situated in Horton Plains in Nuwara Eliya District. The path to the peak is about 2km which can be reached even by a novice hiker with in one hours time. On a clear and sunny day you will be able to see the Horton Plains clearly and even Sri Pada from the peak.

It is always better to start off the hike early morning. The Ticket office will be opened around 6 in the morning. If entering from pattipola side and planning reach there early morning, you will be able to witness a amazing sunrise couple hundred meters before the entrance gate.

Trail head lies on your left side about 400m from the Pattipola main entrance. Signboard of the trail head can be easily miss if your didn’t lookout for it carefully.

First couple of hundred meters were going through tall shrubs after that you will reach to a open terrain with shorter shrubs and grass patches. You will be passing interesting trees, flowers and some leport poo on the side of the trail.

On a clear day you will be able to see the magnificiant surrounding landscapes including good part of the Horton Plains and magnificent neighboring mountain rages.

Conclusion

Even it holds the third highest title, Thotupola Kanda is a very easy trial to cover. Ideal place to beginner and family hikers. Best time to go there is from February to April.

There are no water sources on the top and you may carry enough drinking water for the hike.

start early as possible. Gates open at 6am and many foreign tourists are coming at that time. The Sunrise you can experience from Pattipola side is one thing you shouldn’t miss.

Basic backpacker accommodation available at both Pattipola and Ohiya. If you want they will arrange transport which will drop you at Horton Plains in the morning and pick back in the time you want.
